About Us

The Cheboygan County History Center is owned and operated by the The Historical Society of Cheboygan County
Inc. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in the Cheboygan, Michigan the county seat of
Cheboygan County. Cheboygan is located at the northern edge of Michigan's lower peninsula on the shores of
Lake Huron. The History Center is located near the downtown area.
The History Center constists of three buildings open to the public.
- Spies Heritage Hall—containing exhibits that portray the historic periods of
the county.
- The Victorian Sherriff's House and Jail—which housed the county's sherriff's and
prisoners from the 1880's to 1960.
- A turn-of-the-century Native American log cabin.
A 1940's vintage troop train car was recently added to the collection and is displayed on the
History Center.
The History Center is also graced with a variety of Victorian and modern gardens
maintained by the local Seedums Club.
The Historical Society is incorporated under the laws of the State of Michigan.
